Jon Ruben confessed to 17 charges at the courthouse on Friday

A person who contaminated treats with sedative and provided them to children at a summer program in the area has confessed to sexual crimes against two children aged nine and ten years old.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight youngsters and one adult became sick at Stathern Lodge in July.

The 76-year-old, from that region, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Yet, he disputed one particular crime he was charged with, which was concerning a young boy.

Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a further hearing on November 28th.

'Treat game'

Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She said his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer program which he operated.

Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "rapidly".

She stated to the judge the defendant had engaged in this activity with the children "over an extended period", and children had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had worries in recently.

The prosecutor continued: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about the situation, justifiably.

"They chose" to have a look in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC said items including baby oil, ointment and syringes were located, and his stepchild contacted the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She stated the man continued to conduct the "candy game" with six children that night - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.

"Authorities" had not responded by that time," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, had stated that it was examining law enforcement's management of the situation.

The legal representative said the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the stepson notified the law enforcement a second time.

She stated the defendant then conducted the "sweet game" in a area of five children.
